Time Management Tips for All
|
| We're totally in favor of Alan Masters' idea for lane management, however, the key phrase that everyone has forgotten is "time management." If every driver would practice better time management, proper lane usage would become an everyday thing! |

What Is Time Management? Most drivers drive like they have 5 minutes to get to work, yet they have at least 30 minutes to get there! Give yourself an extra 30 minutes to get to your destination. Morning commuters, set your alarms a half-hour to a full hour earlier than normal. Please believe us when we say it's much more relaxing driving when you have this extra time.
What We Don't Need Is Mandatory Lane Management Drivers need the freedom of choice to change lanes when they need to. With proper time management, each driver will make lane changes much more safely. Freedom of choice is 5 times as important when it comes to lane changes for buses, trucks, semis, and other large vehicles because they can't change lanes quickly within 50'. There's a major reason why truckers and bus drivers have the long-term title of "king of the road." They are very much aware of safety issues and time management.
Tips for Business Owners It would be an asset to a company if it staggered its employees' start and finish times. For example, start at 9 a.m. and leave at 6 p.m. The focus is to avoid at least some of "rush hour" for a safer ride home. The majority of accidents today is due to bad time management.

Don't Speed—Use a GPS Giving yourself an extra 30 to 60 minutes allows you to stay within the posted speed limit and still arrive on-time. Remember that in the summer, there is road construction. With a GPS system, you can drive around these problem areas. Don't rely 100% on a GPS because you could forget to check its battery and have low power when you need it the most.
In the winter, you never know where there may be an accident. You'll be glad you left home 30 to 60 minutes earlier than normal when you suddenly spot an accident. Even without the GPS, you may hear of the accident on the radio and be able to reroute to your destination.
In Closing Time management applies to everyone because we all share these roads and highways. It will be difficult at first because we're in "bad habit" routines, but we will get better. The usual line is, "but, I don't have time for that." We need to rearrange our schedules to fit it in.
Remember, give yourself more time in the morning. Of course, there are always nagging exceptions, but being more relaxed in the morning will allow you to meet each challenge along the way more successfully.
